How does one’s mind interface with the environment?
To what extent do we project our own emotions and ideas into the world we perceive?
What is the Self and how might it relate to the physical hardwiring of the body?
I am awed by the sublime beauty of nature and the exquisite complexity of the mind. Through my work I seek to integrate my interests in aesthetics, the natural sciences, cognitive science and philosophy in order to explore a holistic awareness of being.
I begin each piece with little if any conception of the final composition; instead, I seek to embody my emotional and psychological presence through the immediacy of the drawing process, allowing each image to unfold organically. This emphasis on process enables me to respond to emerging formal relationships as I seek to weave my presence, or the presence of my mind, into the fabric of the image. The finished drawing is intended to act as a catalyst for contemplation while evoking a poetic fascination for the inner workings of nature and the mind.
